Social work

The social worker has a special role and important function in the operation of the old age home and his/her work is of the utmost significance for all beneficiaries. Each person which requires information on the services of social protection for the elderly or on the conditions and means of accommodation at the Home needs to contact the social service of the Home. Through that contact the social worker will inform the interested citizens, relatives or potential beneficiaries on the services which we provide, the manner in which they are provided and on the conditions under which those services can be actualized. The information can be acquired personally at the Home, by phone or electronic mail, and it can also be acquired through our written information materials (flyers, pamphlets, posters etc.)

On admittance and over the course of stay the social worker at the Home assesses the beneficiary’s needs. In cooperation with the beneficiary, his/her family and other members of the professional team they agree on the scope of service and professional work at the Home with the beneficiary and they take them through that process.

The social worker at the old age home, among other things, takes care of the mental health of his/her beneficiaries, monitoring the state of each person, trying to help in resolving emotional issues and various mental states experienced by the elderly

Through individual counselling or other group activities conducted by the institution’s social worker the beneficiaries are offered professional help in the process of adaptation to their new life conditions, overcoming personal hardships or the preservation of their remaining functional capabilities. Through organization of psychoeducational workshops or themed lectures, the beneficiaries are empowered for care of their own health, nurturing family relationships and social connections, their own rights and opportunities for social protection of the elderly and other questions of significance for raising the quality of life through resolving emotional issues and various mental states experienced by the elderly. Through participating in various work-occupational and cultural-entertainment content the beneficiaries have the possibility of connecting and socializing which significantly reduces the problem of loneliness which often accompanies aging and old age.  The purpose of work is in fact recognizing all of the possible changes in the physical and mental sense through talking and monitoring behavior and helping them overcome their problems with as much ease as possible.

Each beneficiary is entitled to choose from the offered activities according to their own needs, affinities and capabilities, and the role of the social worker is to motivate them to participate and spend their free time actively.

Social program activities:

At the Home we organize numerous activities connected to entertainment, culture. Cultural and entertainment activities at the Home are exceptionally rich and varied. All of the significant dates and holidays are marked and celebrated, with plays and birthday celebrations also being organized. Each activity conducted by the social worker with the beneficiaries has to be in line with their interests and wishes because only then it has an effect on the improvement of their mental health state. Group activities are held daily, such as games whose goal is to maintain their level of cognitive capabilities and improve social interaction for the beneficiaries; certain activities related to certain dates such as New Years, Christmas, Easter, birthdays - that is when production of cards is organized, colouring books are handed out, masks are made. Daily activities include reading and writing books and poems, creative workshops where various art techniques are applied. Decoupage, cooking and various other activities; the emphasis is on strengthening the beneficiaries’ confidence with the aim of including them in the creative process where the product itself is important but not the most important. Beneficiary meetings, where suggestions regarding the activities of the Home are given, are important for each Home beneficiary.
